ROMEO
Hold, hold, for Heaven’s sake! Do you not understand the consequences for this brawl without wits?
Misery shall befall both parties, forget any victor.
BENVOLIO
We cannot get close to them because of their swords clashing so fiercely.
We may make the situation worse if we come between them.
Someone has to get the police to break them up, though I’m sure one of the citizens watching already has.
‘Tis a fool’s errand to step between them when their swords clash as thunder.
Any attempt may stand as the catalyst for new woes.
May the watchmen come on the dove’s wing! A citizen surely hath taken that duty by now.
MERCUTIO
Ha! Stay, for the watchmen hath no business anymore.
Tybalt falls
BENVOLIO
Mercutio, away, be gone!
Romeo, attend to him and ensure he is not caught.
The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain.
Stand not amazed: the prince will doom thee death,
If thou art taken: hence, be gone, away!
MERCUTIO
Regret cannot grip me. Fear not, the Prince will not do away with me today. Tomorrow, you shall find me a well man.
