ROMEO
If thou wish so desperately for a fray, I understand I cannot escape here with clean hands. 'Tis a pity, as love I truly hold for thee.
Draws
Drink thy fill from the gladiator's goblet and once thy thirst is alleviated, fly from this place.
I do not wish mortal wounds upon you, dear Tybalt.
TYBALT
Perish, thou carrion-eater. Mine ears hath been bombarded by you enough.
They fight
BENVOLIO
Mercutio, do not stand idle.
Gentlemen, for shame, forbear this outrage!
Tybalt, Romeo, the prince expressly hath
Forbidden bandying in Verona streets:
Hold, Tybalt! Good Romeo!
Tybalt under Benvolio's arm stabs Romeo, and flies with his followers
ROMEO
I hath been gravely wounded.
Crimson is becoming mine only colour to match this day of such black fate.
O sweet Juliet,
Thy beauty hath made me effeminate
And in my temper soften'd valour's steel!
I hath been struck by my newly made kinsman, who I couldn’t bring myself to do such grave harm upon.
How oft when men are at the point of death
Have they been merry, which their keepers call
A lightning before death.
This must be what it is to perish from love! O how bitter this taste is.
MERCUTIO
Zounds, I shall find that villain, Tybalt!
Vile creature of serpentine temper, he shall ne’er wield a blade again.
Which way ran he?
BENVOLIO
Stay, Mercutio!
O woe, he hath departed so swiftly. I fear the flames he wears will scorch him to ash.
Romeo, art thou awake?
Romeo?
Romeo dies
ENDING
-
Romeo dies at Tybalt's hands, so Mercutio kills him in revenge after leaving Benvolio. This act causes him to be banished from the city. With her cousin and love dead, Juliet dies early of grief.
